I still haven't managed to persuade many local couples that i am different from the generic product but i am trying my best with shots like this.

this photo is only the eyes. everything else is just to tell the story, to convey the emotion. it comes through or not. it means something to the client and their family or not. that is the important thing for me. it transmits something Leica MP3

The truth is with all the sets, props & wardobes in this wedding are really going to help me get some really elegant shots. its not just the photographer its all the rest.

i was the only photographer there:
1. to shoot film 2. to use prime lenses 3. not to use flash.
everyone else had canon digital reflex cameras with L zooms and flash arms. i also noted that none of the "press" photographers there wanted even to speak to me. no doubt they had their reasons. i checked what came up on their eos camera screens and they all appeared to be taking the same digicam photos. no doubt they are right and i am wrong.

i think this is the wedding i have liked best so far. i shot every camera and every type film Adorama has to offer i think. wonderful clients.

This is what the 85mm f1.2L is designed for. People uninterupted, unaware of intrusion. I aim to capture moments that are important to people. I aim to make my wedding pictures look like stills from classic movies.

very nice place to get married in. i highly recommend it.

it is hard to keep the head full of dreams and fantasies that are reflected in pictures you take in a daytoday world of email and telcon pricing price price price price price conversations. at least i come home from my wedding travels with a few of these. i have to say i like this one the best of all the wedding shots i did that day. i much prefer fantasy to reality.

I wonder what teenagers think of black and white now. it must be like history books.

i am not sure what i was thinking of really. still at least i did enough normal digital photos i am handing in tomorrow that i can get away with a few that even i am not sure of. candid tender moment wierded by me. no wonder not everyone here gets what i do.

people have often asked me what my real (digital) wedding photos are like. well when i am allowed to shoot the way i think best i try to do this. just people happy, together and preferably looking a million dollars.
|
|
 |
I am not sure she saw me i think she was just thinking and looking into space. for some reason my shots from this job look a little like a hollywood movie wedding. Anyway what a real knockout bride. I remember thinking kind of Monica Belucci vs Catherine Zeta Jones.

Back to by far my best cameras for once. its just another atmosphere.
i'm still living in hope that one day the clients will want only hasselblad 6x6 wedding photos. i feel like i'm swimming against the current to try and sell them this sort of picture. the essence of a subject is what i look for not the reality. just maybe one day it'll catch on.

Those of you who aren't photographers for Vogue advertisers or astronauts taking snapshots of the moon might not be familiar with the Hasselblad name, but it's a prestigious brand that makes "medium format" cameras.

the client was very happy i took my hasselblad. so was I.i think hasselblad photos just have more class. I must take this camera to more weddings.

You can't put these in the wedding album if you want to work again. i prefer them to the ones you can though. i would contract a whole album just full of the bride pulling her skirt up or down and parading around in just high heels and stockings if i was the groom, but that's me and i have so far never had a groom who was interested in the idea of a whole book of erotic shots of his own new wife. those reading this who are taken by the idea can apply. you will get a discount. incidentally i get a lot of people from flickr mentioning the idea of wedding photos for them but raising questions of geographical location. that is not important. aside from issues of correct remuneration i am more interested in the idea of cool clients with taste and some decent music and fine champagne in exotic intercontinental upscale locations rather than just limiting myself to pumping out wedding photos each week where i actually live. if you are going to do it right make sure its on a serious camera and you've chopped everyone's head off as one client once referred to it. many local wedding photographers here are very concerned about having people's eyes all open in the lined up posing in front of formal shots. in real wedding photos after a certain time you get half an eye per two photos (as here) if you are lucky.

i think they had a nice time
in this wedding i tried to be more discreet so they didn't realise i was there
i think my wedding pictures are changing a little compared to a few months ago. perhaps there is more action and reaction in shots now

Taken by the all dancing non focusing wedding photographer ( i think i might have hit the wall behind).
reality before technicality. there are plenty of local wedding photographer who know how to focus their digicams with big flash on top, light correctly and maybe know how to stay vertical while dancing merengue with camera in one hand and female wedding guest in the other after a full bottle of Moët.
my new theory on wedding photos is either go unnoticed or join in as one of them or alternate between the two.

lying on the kitchen floor in my best boss suit. fortunately experience has told me clients have floors that are cleaner than the inside of my wardrobe. i think its due to a combination of full time servants and only seeming to wear their shoes once. Mamiya 7II 50mm Film TRI-X

I want my clients to look a million dollars because they are. i want their weddings to look like what they are - the wedding top celebs were standing in the rain outside to try and get in at least to the after dinner party. i want my clients to look beautiful, feel special, look like the cool people they are, feel like movie stars and look like they are silver screen brat pack big time hollywood players because they are. i want to put such a distance between what i give them and what the local pros do that they have no choice but to remortgage their mansion to pay me. i hate reality i love fantasy. my photos are a fantasy which almost existed.

Leica MP
no photoshop except datestamp removal. it produces images with a kind of 3-D ultra contrast like a hasselblad Zeiss T* I think my canon L lenses are going to go on sale on ebay. These have so much more class than canon photos. it cost a fortune but it was worth it. its another class of camera and image. far more contrast than canon L zooms big things. it only comes out for weddings; far too expensive & beautiful to carry around in the street.

I've shot 2700 digital photos at the wedding. i also did some rolleiflex, pentacon six, holga, lomo, Nikon F6 and Leica MP. I shot safe digital and took more creative/higher risk film shots.

why do many wedding photographers make their wedding photos just look like wedding photos? i hate "wedding photos".

i look at wedding magazine and i see what the local super rich get instead. i don't understand why they spend more on their handbags than they do on their wedding photos. where is their style, their class, their taste? it doesn't matter how much you spend in dior on a cocktail dress if your photographer is just another generic. they won't understand my photos until i get famous. and at this rate its unlikely.
fortunately there are a very very few couples like the charming clients from this wedding who understand. if it wasn't for them i would leave the country in search of couples with taste and soul.

anti-wedding photos
i like anything that just goes slightly off angle or cuts through a front of smile that people hide behind in wedding "photography". i am not sure what this one means so its in.
People tell me I need to use flashes bouncing off table cloths and stuff but i have no idea how to get my Leica work with flashes, so don't bother. There's always enough light around; I just look where it is and where it goes and then guess the rest.

taken before a night out while i could still focus. i like the dynamics movement such a wide lens on my film Leica. why they stop making all the best cameras and films is beyond me. its a kind of evil conspiracy
|
|
 |
Almost a rule of thirds composition i suppose i never noticed at the time.
I am going to take a hasselblad camera to all my weddings from now on even if its just to take a few "personal" pictures like these. whatever sums are thrown at me there will be no hasselblad lined up fake smiles though.

no tricks no effects just carl zeiss t* glass & fuji neopan film
from the new lab i use that actually develops the film properly and doesn't scratch negatives. Super clients understood perfectly the idea of real photos and just let me do exactly what i wanted. one day more than the very very few here will get it.
