candid. i think people weren't even aware of what i was doing.
i like any photos that don't look like something i've done before.

No photoshop tricks. real Leica glass beats the new Canon L rubbish any time on contrasts and tones and price and weight and cool.
The only sad thing is they will never know this picture exists

their friends, seconds later. different camera & this time c41 bw film. came out very different. it may not be sharp but i like the atmosphere it gave
taking decent pictures is never easy. and trying to make money of trying to take decent pictures is a very bad idea
"darling. how much did we pay for the photographer?"
My aim now is to take photos such that nobody will call me again for new bookings this year. with party shots like this on the internet i can guarantee getting no new jobs for 2011. 2010 almost completely booked anyway.

you never know what you'll get in a shot at 2AM

Super clients understood perfectly the idea of real photos and just let me do exactly what i wanted. one day more than the very very few here will get it.
again taken while i was supposed to be working.
just occasionally even at work there is more to life than just work.

taken while i was supposed to be working

anything is good though as long as its not the posed staged wedding stuff i do now to make a living

found still life. taken during a moment off in OPM night club.

just very occasionally there is more than just wedding photos

weddings are too much stress and not just for the photographer

i had a comment from a potential client about how i cut parts of people's heads off especially the tops. she was right i do do it but not as she thought because i do it by accident. fortunately the wonderful client here had no problems with it. this was cut as almost always on camera. ie it cannot be "corrected".

i want wedding photos with emotions.
i want real emotions
and i want them full on.

Is it me or is this a little sharon stone?
There is more in weddings than just "wedding photos" and the smaller the cameras with quieter click the better.i have 10-12 of p&s all loaded with different film so i never miss anything.

this is for the people who say i make mistakes in my framing and focusing. I think it is about time for more effort to mess up more photos. I have been taking it all too seriously recently.

Photos can freeze moments.
I lost focus on her on the second shot but i don't think it matters
I shoot without thinking and hasselblads just seem to see things by themselves. its like water diving. i just hold the twig. i have no idea how it does it or how the pictures will look.

This was taken on a beautiful sunny day but intended to be stark and cold. From upcoming NY photo exhibition.

my titles are fantasy my descriptions are bitterness.
it is hard to keep the head full of dreams and fantasies that are reflected in pictures you take in a daytoday world of email pricing price price price price price conversations. at least i come home from my wedding travels with a few of these. i have to say i like this one the best of all the wedding shots i did that day. i much prefer fantasy to reality.

kind of cool Vizcaya, Miami wedding late on

when i'm not at work at least i can try new things. if i shot this on a wedding job it would never sell to the client. but the strange thing is these can sell after to people who were never there at the time and they fetch much higher prices than the photos people actually pay you to do. up to 200 times higher per photo in fact than digicam wedding group shots. Photography is a strange world. what easily sells you can only sell cheap what is harder to sell you can sell at a decent price. The opposite of obvious logic.

when i started photography a pro said you have to think what purpose each shot has.
I am not sure what he was thinking.
i think really my pictures are not photos of specific people but ideas, situations and the idea of relationships.

I love hasselblads; they take pictures that have more class and they make everyone look cool from any angle.
Again taken while i was supposed to be working.

i am trying my best to take wedding photos that look like movie stills from obscure art house european cinema. its not easy but i think thinking about the lighting can help a lot. very good models are essential.

people love doing photos with each other all day. no idea why they get me i do the backs of their heads and odd stuff half the time

an almost normal wedding photo for once.

including this shot in my wedding photo selection is ure to put off 99.9999% of local couples. wedding photos should look like typical posed smalltown wedding photos for all but the very very very very few here.
party in full swing

Happy people, happy times...

Leica MP. Classier photos than canon L or Nikons. When the image is this good i can't see any reason to use a digicam camera. no special effects, no photoshop needed. It just takes very high quality pictures. My digipics are nowhere near. in comparison they have no quiet strength, no timeless atmosphere, no class.
not all my wedding photos are legs and cleavage shots. just occasionally i take a few i can try and sell. i have to say for a family album photo i like this one. family photos can be nice. they don't need to be faked and cheesy. maybe one day they will suddenly get it here. at least there are a few like the charming couple from this week's wedding in the City who understand the difference.
| |
i am trying to do satandard wedding album portraits of all the guests with no special effects that scare off new clients but as real as possible.

I've shot tons of traditional photos on this party, its time for something new. This one looks different for me, that will do. i don't care if my pictures are good or bad just that they don't look like something i've done before. the xeroxers are good - they make you move on because i realise even I just look like a tired copy of myself from 12 months ago if i just repeat myself. there may be elements in any artists work that are unique but there has to be something new.
Valery Lemberg-selective focus-almost conventional wedding & social photography.
I will be back on the www soon. its just i have had 6 weddings in the last 3 weeks which has been hard to just to keep on top of it if you need to get it right 2-300 times in each one.
