: from the new lab i use that actually develops the film properly and doesn't scratch negatives

i suppose a real photographer wouldn't have over exposed her dress but speed is the key in weddings in my opinion

: The only thing I know about photography is that my pictures have never been good enough.
My lighting has been unexcusably flat particularly in weddings.
Any serious photographer would immediately have dismissed my work as technically beginner level to be disregarded.

I have spent 17 years shooting badly lit wedding photography.
Until this summer I had never really taken the time off needed to think seriously about why my pictures were complete ****. Only now am I beginning to take things really seriously. I thought I was good, but I wasn't good enough. I am still seriously flawed at a serious level if I want to think of myself as a serious contender at a serious level (and I don't mean small town low budget wedding photography) but whatever flaws I have in my pictures are going to get fixed.
I'm not good enough but I'm working on it.

: people, eyes, a stare, a galnce, a moment of stillness, a connection with the camera, with me, captured, frozen in time.
 nothing else.

i like the 85mm f1.4 i used to shoot only this lens in weddings. the next job i'm going to take a 70-200mm VR f2.8 to shoot at 200mm

from an upscale wedding in New York

: i think they had a nice time

in this wedding i tried to be more discreet so they didn't realise i was there

i think my wedding pictures are changing a little compared to a few months ago. perhaps there is more action and reaction in shots now

: telling poor long suffering clients that you can't include his whole head because it was framed out on camera and that you can't make the photo color because it was shot on black and white film is quite a mystifying as explanation for normal sane people just looking to have their wedding photos corrected.

for me this picture is a half smile and a look in the eye, but then i am not normal and i am definitely a high risk photographer to hire when concepts, ideas and the look in someone's eye matter less to me than specific guest list full and clear inclusion.

Valery Lemberg - alternative to generic American wedding photography

: the last 2 weddings i shot almost all on 85mm.
i like closeups and i like the cinematic look.

: i want wedding photos with emotions.

i want real emotions

and i want them full on.

No computer generated efects at all except removal of scan dust. Shot as is. No light adjustments. nothing.

Agfa optima 400 bought a couple of years ago in a lot of 300 rolls when they closed the factories down and had out of date stock left gathering dust in the warehouse.
